In China, instead of asking your age, people may ask you questions like "What do you belong to?" Don't ever think that you are expected to answer like "I belong to the US". You are supposed to belong to one of twelve animals! (Those are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Boar.) It is not that weird as you have to follow the order of a rat or a tiger. That is Chinese Zodiac. The Chinese Zodiac is based on a twelve year cycle - each year being represented by an animal that imparts distinct characteristics to its year. Many Chinese believe that the year of a person's birth is the primary factor in determining that person's personality traits, physical and mental attributes and degree of success and happiness throughout his lifetime. Actually, in China, this is just an alternative way to say how old you are.
RAT (1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996) Gregarious, intelligent, and polite, the Rat has an ever-widening social circle.

TIGER (1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998) Competitive, optimistic, and always stimulated by a challenge, the Tiger is a natural leader.
RABBIT (1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999) Tranquil, generous, and imaginative, the Rabbit is happiest when it is in harmony with its environment. It loves to be pampered and adored, and does its best to sustain peaceful relationships.
